ExemptionsLicensee's exempt from CE are those who served in the armed forces during the renewal period, state or federally elected officials, or active Illinois attorneys.

NEW AGENT LICENSING CHANGES

NEW AGENT LICENSING TIL 4/30/2011The current pre-licensing requirements are; salesperson license 45 hours of education and pass a state exam, or for a brokers license 120 hours of education and pass a state exam, These pre-licensing requirements will continue until 4/30/2011 only.
NEW AGENT LICENSING AS OF 5/1/2011For all persons wanting to get a real estate license on or after 5/1/2011 the requirements will be 90 hours of pre-licensing education then pass a state exam after which an additional 30 hours post licensing of education is required (120 hours total). It will be called a Brokers license.
MANAGING BROKER LICENSING AS OF 5/1/2011Starting at 5/1/2011 (effective on 5/1/2012 for all registered office managers and sponsoring brokers as of 4/30/2011) to be a registered office manager or sponsoring broker you will need a Managing Brokers license. The upgrade from a brokers license will require an additional 45 hour course and pass a state exam. Also any broker licensee who wants to upgrade to a Managing Brokers license on or after 5/1/2012 must have had an active real estate license for 2 out of the last 3 years.

EXISTING AGENT LICENSE CHANGES & REQUIREMENTS

SALESPERSON LICENSE AS OF 4/30/2011If you have a Salesperson license as of 4/30/11 the expiration date will automatically be extended til 4/30/12 at which time it will terminate and can not be renewed. You will need to upgrade to a Broker license to continue to practice real estate in Illinois.
SALESPERSON UPGRADE TO BROKER FROM 5/1/2011 to 4/30/2012There will be 2 choices to upgrade: 1st choice; Pass a proficiency exam (you will only be allowed one time to take the proficiency exam, if you fail you must take the 30 hour course and then pass the exam) AND complete 18 hours of CE (9 core and 9 elective). 2nd choice; Complete a 30 hour course AND exam.
CURRENT BROKER LICENSEES REMAINING BROKER LICENSEESIf you have a Brokers license as of 4/30/2011 and do not plan on upgrading to a Managing Broker license by 4/30/2012, you will need to complete 12 hours of CE (6 core and 6 elective) and be sponsored by a Sponsoring Broker for your 4/30/12 renewal.
REGISTERED OFFICE MANAGERS W/IDFPR AS OF4/30/2011 UPGRADING TO MANAGING BROKER LICENSE If you are registered as a manager of an office with the IDFPR on 4/30/2011 and will upgrade to the Managing Broker License, you have 2 choices. 1st choice; Pass a proficiency exam (you will only be allowed one time to take the proficiency exam, if you fail you must take the 45 hour course and then pass the exam) AND complete 24 hours of CE (6 core, 6 elective, and 12 Broker Management). 2nd choice; Complete a 45 hour course plus exam AND 12 hours of CE (6 core and 6 elective).
SOLE PROPRIETOR SELF SPONSORED BROKERS AS OF 4/30/2011You will be considered a registered office manager with the IDFPR on 4/30/2011 and the above choices to upgrade will apply. To continue to sponsor yourself you are required to upgrade your license to the Managing Broker license by 4/30/2012 OR you do not have to upgrade but will need to be sponsored by another sponsoring broker plus complete 12 hours of CE (6 core and 6 elective) as of 4/30/2012 to renew your license.
ALL OTHER BROKERS WANTING TO UPGRADE TO A MANAGING BROKERS LICENSEThis includes all broker associates as of 4/30/2011, even those who are the owners/principals/shareholders/partners/members/etc. of any legal entity that is the sponsoring broker, who have a brokers license but not registered as a manager for an office with the IDFPR and want to upgrade to the Managing Broker License you will need to complete a 45 hour course plus state exam AND 12 hours of CE (6 core and 6 elective).

BROKER LICENSEES12 Hours of CE consisting of 6 Core and 6 Elective. Exception = the 30 hour post-license course taken by new licensees will satisfy the 12 hour CE requirement for the renewal period in which the course was taken.
MANAGING BROKER LICENSEES24 Hours of CE consisting of 6 Core, 6 Elective and 12 Broker Management (the Broker Management course must be completed in classroom or by other interactive delivery method presenting instruction and real time discussion between the instructor and students). Exception = the 45 hour managing broker upgrade course will satisfy the 12 hour Broker Management CE requirement for the renewal period in which the course was taken.
EXEMPTIONS TO CE REQUIREMENTSDuring the pre-renewal period you are exempt from CE if; you serve in the armed services of the U.S., OR serve as an elected State or Federal official, OR serve as a full time employee of the Department, OR are licensed as an Attorney in Illinois.
