ILLINOIS REAL ESTATE LICENSE CHANGES

ILLINOIS REAL ESTATE LICENSE CHANGES

LICENSE CHANGES IN ILLINOISWe had and will have a 3 tiered real estate license system in Illinois but the names have been changed. Previously it was Leasing Agent, Salesperson, and Broker. It will now be Leasing Agent (unaffected by new requirements), Broker (is the new lower sales license the same as the old Salesperson and can not sponsor or manage), and Managing Broker ( is the new upper license same as the old broker license, required to sponsor yourself and/or others but you can have this license even if sponsored by someone else, and required to manage an office).
SALESPERSON LICENSE RENEWAL FOR 4/30/11 HAS BEEN CANCELLEDAll Salesperson licenses have been automatically extended until 4/30/12 at which time they will terminate and can not be renewed. No new Salesperson licenses are being issued in Illinois and they will cease to exist as of 5/1/12. To continue to practice real estate in Illinois after 4/30/12 you will need to upgrade to a Brokers license by completing one of the upgrade options as per the "Salesperson Upgrade To Broker by 4/30/12" section below.
SPONSORING CHANGES IN ILLINOISIf you currently are a Broker sponsoring and/or managing yourself and/or others you must upgrade to the new Managing Broker license by completing one of the upgrade options as per the "Broker Upgrade To Managing Broker by 4/30/12" section below to continue to do so. Any licensed Broker as of 4/30/11 can upgrade to Managing Broker by completing one of the upgrade options as per the "Broker Upgrade To Managing Broker by 4/30/12" section below even if you do not or will not sponsor or manage, or if you will be sponsored by someone else, and want to retain the upper license or the ability to sponsor or manage in the future.
SALESPERSON UPGRADE TO BROKER BY 4/30/12

SALESPERSON UPGRADE TO BROKER BY 4/30/12

1 A 2 STEP PROCESS = UPGRADE and RENEWALTo understand what needs to be accomplished view this in terms of the 2 steps that you need to complete for the State. First step is to do one of the education requirements to be able to transition/upgrade your license from Salesperson to Broker. Once the education requirement is complete you can fill out the state transition form, pay the fee and get your new license. Step 2 involves renewing that new license that will expire on 4/30/12. You need to complete any CE required, then fill out the renewal form, pay the fee and renew your new Broker license. It does not matter how close to 4/30/12 you transition/upgrade your license you will still have to renew and pay both fees.
2 SALESPERSON TO BROKER UPGRADE OPTION #1Pass a proficiency exam plus complete 18 hours of CE (additional information can be found on the "Proficiency" page).
3 SALESPERSON TO BROKER UPGRADE OPTION #2Complete a 30 hour self study course (additional information can be found on the "30/45 Courses" page).
4 GETTING YOUR NEW BROKER LICENSEYou need to complete one of the upgrade options listed above. Completing either upgrade option above DOES NOT automatically get you the new license. If you complete the proficiency exam the results are reported to the IDFPR and you can go online to either fill out the online application form, or print and mail. If you complete the 30 hour course work you will receive a school transcript, will need to print the transition application form and mail both. The online application or printable transition application form can be found at http://www.idfpr.com/dpr/re/Forms/TransForms.asp (link above). There will be a $125 fee for your new Brokers license.
5 4/30/12 RENEWAL OF YOUR NEW BROKER LICENSEYour new Broker License will expire on 4/30/12 (after 2/1/12 you will be required to renew your new Brokers license at the same time that you upgrade to that license). To renew will be a $150 fee plus completion of any CE as required according to the upgrade option you completed.
6 UPGRADE NOTEA Salesperson upgrading to Broker by completing either of the choices above CAN NOT upgrade to a Managing Broker as per the "Broker Upgrade To Managing Broker by 4/30/12" section but will have to complete the requirements as per the "New Agent Licensing" section below.
